Short answer
Why does my trial balance import make the balance sheet not balance?
Usually because the imported trial balance is not being read with the same sign, equity, retained earnings, mapping, or starting-month convention that the forecast model expects.
Answer
Check these items first
- Debit and credit direction: cash, receivables, inventory, and fixed assets should not all flip negative after import.
- Equity signs: capital stock, retained earnings, and other equity lines often use the opposite sign from asset lines.
- Retained earnings: avoid double-counting current profit inside opening retained earnings.
- Account mapping: unmapped or misclassified accounts can land outside PL, BS, or cash flow behavior.
- Starting month: importing the wrong trial balance month shifts the opening balance sheet before the forecast begins.
- Checks tab: use the mismatch amount to decide whether the issue is opening BS, account sign, timing, or journal balance.
